Erin Schlozman
ABOUT
In the spring of 2021, Erin Schlozman launched 4th Trimester Wellness, an online community for new moms. Within one year of its launch, Erin had an organic following of 60,000 new parents, and within two years her following had doubled to 130,000+ new parents over several different platforms. It was kismet. Erin is passionate about supporting postpartum moms, and postpartum moms are clearly resonating with the message of 4th Trimester Wellness “Postpartum, what the actual f!?” was exactly what Erin thought after bringing home her first baby in 2017. Erin had been working as a therapist in her community for years at that point and had NO idea what she needed to help support her in her new path of parenting. If finding a therapist that specializes in matrescence was challenging for her, how would a new parent without knowledge of navigating the health system find what they need? Erin’s first baby, Jack, was born in 2017, and in 2018 she launched her private therapy practice with one goal: accessible support for new moms. Erin completed advanced therapy training with Postpartum Support International and became the Colorado State Volunteer Coordinator with Postpartum Support International. During this time, it became clear to Erin that supporting new moms in their transition into parenthood was exactly what she wanted to be doing.
Shortly after launching her private practice Erin began hosting a birth processing group. She continued to dig deeper into identity formation and began seeing the transition into motherhood as one of the most significant milestones that women experience. In May of 2020 Erin gave birth to her daughter, Ruby, at 32 weeks. The tables had turned. After working with moms in this NICU professionally, she was now a mom in the NICU with her own baby. The social worker that had been a colleague was now her social worker. The hospital cafeteria that she had eaten lunch in for many years, was now the place that she stood crying, drenching her mask in her own tears. Erin found that parenting her small kids during the pandemic enhanced her awareness of how isolated and lonely new moms were feeling.
As for professional credentials, in 2006 Erin completed her undergraduate degree in History, with a minor in Applied Behavioral Sciences. In 2008 she began her master’s degree in counseling psychology and upon completion of her master’s degree (and 2000 hours of clinical work), she became a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She has worked in a variety of settings over the last 15 years: private practice, community mental health, and as a behavioral health clinician within the largest teaching hospital system in Colorado.
Over the years Erin has completed numerous professional training programs including Postpartum Support International’s clinical and advanced clinical training. She has completed several Trauma Informed Care certifications, Adolescent Mental Health Clinical Training and Diagnostics: ages 0-5, Motivational Interviewing and Group Facilitation. Also lending to her expertise is her experience in Corporate Management Consulting with one of the nation’s largest insurance providers.
Erin was introduced to the world of perinatal mental health during her time working as part of an Addiction Medicine Consult Service. Erin’s introduction came in the form of working with expectant moms who were diagnosed with substance use disorders during pregnancy. The same NICU that she spent countless hours rocking her own baby in, was the NICU she had previously spent countless hours supporting new moms in. It was a full-circle experience, and one that has deepened her understanding of our expectations and support in the earliest days of parenting.
