Maggie McAlister
ABOUT
Maggie McAlister is a Los Angeles–based writer and creative director who’s worked for global brands like Barbie, Smashbox Cosmetics, and now Fenty Beauty. Fashion and glamour have been part of her career since day one. Her first job out of college was a plum assignment: covering press junkets and working on a pioneering website that connected teen celebrities with their fans. To this day, she’s an expert on JTT, the cast of Cruel Intentions, and Y2K trends. Next came seven years at Mattel, which was a masterclass in branding and children’s entertainment. There she was a fierce advocate for intelligence as the chief attribute in girl-power IP like Barbie, Polly Pocket, and Monster High. In her five years at Smashbox, she wrote copy in all mediums, managing a team and getting paid to name eyeshadow shades (which is so much fun she would have done it for free). Other highlights include a job with a luxe vegan fashion brand, an Instagram project called The Single-Mom Makeover, and a preschool TV show called PAW Patrol, for which she wrote catchphrases and brainstormed names for several pups. When she’s not working, she loves hot yoga, playing the piano, texting Katy fashion photos, and hanging out with her eleven year-old son, whose style is best described as Wes Anderson meets skater boi.
